Saturday School

Learn, Move & Grow
Expanding Language and Learning at DSKI

Led by Cecil Burton, the Saturday School is an initiative hosted by DSKI, providing additional inclusive learning opportunities for all students, including special education needs (SEN) students.
The language programmes build strong communication skills while integrating subjects from top international curricula. Students thrive through interactive projects, presentations, and STEAM activities.

For a unique approach, the Move to Learn programme fosters physical and mental development and coordination of the left and right brain hemispheres, combining movement and learning, with English as the primary language and Japanese support as needed.

Move to Learn

Building Confidence Through Movement

Move to Learn is a unique learning-through-movement programme focused on developing selfconfidence, concentration, appropriate behavior, perseverance, and brain-body coordination. Unlike language-based courses, it emphasizes all round foundational development.

This programme is designed for two groups of children:

  1. Beginners and Newcomers in English, providing foundational skills in thinking and learning in English.
  2. Children with special educational needs, including those with ASD, ADHD, Down syndrome, and Asperger’s.

Parents of students who are assessed by Mr. Burton to have made sufficient progress in this programme, will at the right time be advised to transition them to the English programme.

What Makes It Special?

  • Created by Cecil Burton, featuring movement activities, music, games, play, arts, and crafts
  • Primarily in English, with Japanese support as needed
  • Open to all children aged 5–12 in a mixed-age class
  • Welcomes special needs children (conditions apply)
  • No prior English ability required
  • Runs with a minimum of six students

Language-Based Programmes
English, German, French

The English, German, and French programmes are language-based, requiring some basic ability in the chosen language. They focus on developing comprehension, speaking, grammar, reading, and writing. In addition to language development, lessons integrate age-appropriate subjects such as science, geography, mathematics, and history, aligned with the IB and British school curriculums. Depending on the class level, students also engage in public speaking, presentations, creative projects, research, and STEAM activities.

Who Can Join?

  • Children aged 5 to 12 years with English, German, or French-speaking backgrounds
  • Parents of children aged 4–5 who already have a foundational level of English speaking and understanding

* Each child will first be assessed, and parents will then be informed whether we can offer them a place in the programme.

* Parents of students who have been with us for several years and are approaching or passing the age of 12 may request for their child to continue in the programme beyond age 13 for a couple more years.

To re-enroll, please complete the online form by the end of May.

In addition to benefiting children,
Saturday School provides families with a safe and friendly environment for students and a supportive community,
where parents and children can connect with other international families.
